Raw black clay, slathered in white porcelain slip, mark making, carving modelling, and incising in coil built or thrown works. Layering of colours, a personal palette based on coastal morning walks with a focus on ‘Chiaro Scuro’ the light and the darkness falling around ocean and cliff face. A painter on clay, for the love and touch of a final piece, bliss!
Dani Salvo is a ceramic artist based on the gorgeous Bellarine Peninsular in Victoria. An artist and teacher, she is behind Be My Keeper Maker's Studio and The Keepers Gallery, a place to make and a place to show.
Dani has always worked in the arts, as a practicing artist, teacher and as an arts project worker/grant writer where she has developed projects to connect young people, cultural communities and older individuals to art and art making. Working with such groups has inspired her love of teaching and fostering fearless creativity and exploration with clay. The studio is a space where individuality thrives and engages participants at all levels of their journey, sculptural or functional.
Dani has a broad skill base and generally her sculptural works incorporate her love of painting and drawing. Predominately a figurative sculptor but explores abstract form and palettes, currently addicted to the black clay, white clay with layers of oxide washes, studio made engobes and glazes that she has personally developed, simplifying her surface treatment, or increasing it, whatever works with the form.
Dani the President of The Geelong Sculptors Group, she has taken part in several exhibitions to date and takes private commissions, her ambition is to extend her personal arts practice over the coming years.
Dani has a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts- Ceramics and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education.
